G3 : 2003-09

2003 was a huge MLP year, as it was the start of the whole new pony generation, the third : the G3.

As G2 has never been considered as a success by most (G1 nostagic) collectors, everyone expected the G3 to be worth the wait…

… And I believe we can now say they were !

Characters, shapes, colours, spirit, the G3 really were the proud heirs of our beloved G1 (well, that’s my point of view). There were ponies, pegasus, unicorns, babies and even special editions. Only the brothers were actually missing.

There never were as many different models in G3 than in G1 though, but hey ! G1 are the best ! Don’t ever forget that !

Almost 10 years after the last G1,  the children we were by then had become adult collectors, so excited to find their MLP (or their daughters, to be correct) in stores again !

G3.5 : 2009-10

In 2009 and for a very short time (1 year or so…), Hasbro stopped to produce the G3 as we knew them, and introduced new molds, slightly different, slightly smaller. Only the ‘Core 7 Ponies’ were released this way.

It was not really G3 anymore, but not really a new MLP generation either (as the characters stayed the same as late G3), so the collectors called them G3.5 .
